Week 3
Half way.
Finished my bacon fried rice last night and decided to tackle the caribou. I sliced of a pile of thin slices and made a Renskav. According to the recipie a Swedish reindeer and mushroom stew, substituting the caribou for reindeer. It's for dinner tonight but I may have had a taste- and yes it was amazing. I think it resembles a stroganoff, I'll have it on pasta tonight. The meat itself is definately lean- I've never seen anything like it, so not the hit of flavor that fats like in beef bring, but not "game-y" like venison deer that I have tried.
Sorry, my mouth is watering again.
So I have a little more meat to cook- I'm guessing at least 6 meals worth? and may still leave some for the next group in. Wish I had a scale to see just how much this is. Thanks Shel for suggesting cutting up the meat and freezing portions. I may have been starting to stress at one point.
I will get to try that Catch and Cook coating soon- it looks like fun. I apologized to my stack of canned chicken on the shelf this morning- although its been my go to staple, it's definately fallen to second place.
Tuesday.............night
So, "how is a snowmobile like a deer?" (answer below)
I was thinking the other night, or rather as I was waking up- I had slept so well and so deeply I said to myself that I slept like the dead. I'm not sure that I've actually ever used that expression before, but I thought it was good given that I am sure I slept so deeply that trolls could have partied in the room and I wouldn't have budged.. But then I was thinking is it appropriate to relate death to my living experience? I mean I am getting up there....and anyways- given the plethora of zombie shows, movies, games- watching, "The Last of Us", do the dead actually sleep- is the explaination of death still mean what it used to?
Answer: "When one jumps out in front of you on the road, always assume there will be another coming right behind it."
just saying, and there are no deer here.
I know I know, go back to posting pictures. Did I mention that I am on nights for the remainder?
Thursday..........morning
The local Northern store yesterday. Sometimes theres more or less snowmobiles out front but its still not something I am used to seeing. I drove to the store the other day- hard to get a parking spot- I assume reverse either doesn't exist on these things or just inconvenient to use it. Sometimes half of the parking spots- and half of the roadway are blocked with "parked: skidoos.
Community I still find to be polite and pleasant- a few times random people just strike up conversation while shopping.
Roads are becoming a little more treacherous for walking- well not so scary if you have spikes. Hasn't been fresh snow lately so whats on the ground has become quite polished and slippery- resembling a skating rink. So far any vehicle without tracks are driving slowly and carefull through town.

Eat in small batches first. Our tummys sometimes need some getting use to. Looks amazing, I never tried making it myself or trying new recipes
