Arviat NU

While walking to the Northern Store I noticed two old Bombardiers covered in snow in a yard. Not your regular ski-doos- these B12s I think are from the 1970's. I'll "readers digest" the history but Armand B designed and built the first of these snow machines in Quebec in the 1930's, these larger ones in the late 1940's up into late 70's? Variations were made as people movers, rescue, sidewalk plows, etc, etc. They were sold and used in centres like Montreal and then through any communities in Quebec, the North, Europe where tracked vehicles were needed since the one/two man snowmobiles had not been introduced yet. So yes- they appear to be a little worse for wear on closer examination, so no Shelah- I will not be bringing them home to restore in the garage. But it was kind of a thrill to see one of these again, a little piece of Canadiana. Half way. Finished my bacon fried rice last night and decided to tackle the caribou. I sliced of a pile of thin slices and made a Renskav. According to the recipie a Swedish reindeer and mushroom stew, substituting the caribou for reindeer. It's for dinner tonight but I may have had a taste- and yes it was amazing. I think it resembles a stroganoff, I'll have it on pasta tonight. The meat itself is definately lean- I've never seen anything like it, so not the hit of flavor that fats like in beef bring, but not "game-y" like venison deer that I have tried. Sorry, my mouth is watering again. So I have a little more meat to cook- I'm guessing at least 6 meals worth? and may still leave some for the next group in. Wish I had a scale to see just how much this is. Thanks Shel for suggesting cutting up the meat and freezing portions. I may have been starting to stress at one point. Wow! Friday already. It's been much warmer this week- minus 32 when I come into work, minus 26 during the day. I see they are calling for minus 18 next week- should feel balmy. No fresh snow to speak of since I've been here- and no northern lights. These bunnies aren't as large as the last one I saw, but cute seeing them grazing at the corner of the parking lot this morning. Four tires good- two legs bad I guess- they weren't skittish at all when I pulled up and took the pictures. Get out of the car to get closer? Bye bye. Just $112 for my 2 bags of groceries last night. 3 peppers $10.29,small sesame oil 16.39, small bag potatoes 13.79, etc etc. Shouldn't need much more this trip.
